Paul and the team are a great source of ideas and inspiration bringing furniture and service delivery design solutions to our libraries over many years. A great blend of the conventional and zany, with a look that can help transform any library.

When tasked with the responsibility to refurbish the General Library Lending, Interloan & Enquiry public service area to create a more friendly and modern space, my first step was to investigate the furniture options available from Instinct Furniture. In the past we have successfully used Instinct Furniture to provide stylish service desks, self issue stands, plasma screen holders, and other equipment. We are very pleased with the outcome for this latest project with the transformation of the new service area from a ‘barrier’ look to an open, fresh, and service friendly environment. We have always found the staff at Instinct Furniture to be very professional, helpful, and good listeners!

The Faculty of Education has been steadily re-tasking public spaces in its buildings as informal learning areas to encourage collaborative interactions by student and/or staff groups in comfortable, well equipped spaces. Key to creating these spaces has been the provision of highly functional and adaptable furniture. Working with Paul White and his team at Instinct Furniture has been ideal as they are able to design and manufacture furniture that is specific to our needs and requirements.

Our students love the refreshed learning spaces and especially the range of choices provided by Instinct Furniture. Balancing the needs of group work and those who need a place for individual silent study can be challenging, however the new furniture supports these effortlessly. Replacing small old-fashioned study carrels with the beautiful modern version has been particularly successful and we appreciate Instinct Furniture partnering with us to develop this design.

Following a move from a very small building to one more than five times larger, there was an opportunity to use innovation in our furnishings. To that end, we asked Paul to create two ‘pods’ to work as information and circulation desks, that encouraged an inclusive feel, rather than keeping the customer at a distance.
What the Instinct team came up with fits well into the space, with the colour scheme and with the workflow that we wanted to achieve. On request, the self-check tables were built of matching materials. Paul and the Instinct team have been marvellous to work with, having a positive attitude and being very responsive to changes.

With changes to our service delivery model, we were after more versatile, less intimidating furniture solutions that were height adjustable for the comfort of both staff and customers. We have been very pleased with the GLO 1600, GLO MINI and STEALTH counters, and the great customer service that we have received from Instinct Furniture.

Our YAKETY YAK, ASK ME and BEAN desks have all proven to be great choices. They have allowed us to make better use of our spaces and they are also more welcoming and less intimidating than our old desks. Instinct Furniture were so helpful to deal with, going to extraordinary lengths to meet the tight timeframes required for our project.

With the introduction of RFID self-service and the subsequent change in our service delivery model, we were looking for new Smart workstations for the District Library in Blenheim. We wanted height adjustable solutions and are very pleased with the flexibility the YAKETY YAKs have given us.

Instinct Furniture have been very receptive to all our libraries requirements and needs. We have bought several furniture and display pieces from Instinct, and when it came to remodelling and up-grading our customer service areas, we had no doubt Instinct would be able to provide the best solution for our needs. Instinct’s range is modern, functional and user-friendly. The ability to select laminate colours allowed us to get exactly what we desired for the fresh new design and décor in our spaces. The functionality, and ability to select add-on accessories that worked with our spaces made the selection from the Instinct range perfect. Instinct’s design team have created furniture pieces that are not only practical, but become talking pieces in their own right. We’ll definitely source from Instinct again.

We wanted to downsize our enquiries counter to align with shifting customer expectations and to present a contemporary appearance to make people feel they had walked into a library that looked modern and evolving. We spent considerable time going through library catalogues and following up recommendations, and it always came back to Instinct Furniture. They had exactly what we needed – and a variety of options to achieve our goal. We have only just installed the YAKETY YAK counter and the EFTPOS station and we’re very happy with the look and functionality. The public are too. We will be undertaking more upgrade and redesigns in the future and I’m sure Instinct Furniture will feature prominently in our discussions.

We were looking for a compact, versatile service point to pilot a new service at UOW Library. Paul supplied a YAKETY YAK which has been perfect. Easily relocatable and height adjustable, we are able to position the desk where we need it, and use it as a sit down study desk when not in use as a service point. Always professional and responsive, Paul sourced specific veneer so that the desk matched our current joinery, and met our very tight deadlines.

One of the key concepts for both the Penrith (Kingswood) campus and Hawkesbury campus libraries was to remove barriers between our staff and our clients. The YAKETY YAK desks supplied by Instinct Furniture encourage side-by-side interactions at the service point and enhanced our existing roving assistance delivery strategy. The ability to adjust the height of the desk at the touch of a button, to suit not only staff requirements but more importantly those of our clients has been well received by everyone.
It is a pleasure to work with Instinct Furniture in the development of our different service point desks. Paul took time to understand our unique needs and broader service aims, and combined that with an existing understanding of library service point operations to deliver a practical, functional and sleek result.

The City of Darwin libraries have undertaken refurbishment activities to make our public spaces more functional and inviting to our users. The introduction of RFID has given us the impetus to change from our previous customer service desks to more user friendly models. The modern styles and colours of furniture offered by Instinct Furniture fitted very well into our plans for re-modelling our service points. Our collaboration with Paul and his team has been positive with all aspects of service very helpful and efficient.

There has been no dramatic change to the design of library furniture until Instinct Furniture. I am so glad I discovered this New Zealand company which now also has on office in Sydney. The furniture is modern, stylish, colourful and ergonomic. The Whitlam Library at Cabramatta designed by renowned architect Harry Seidler and opened in 1974 has been extensively refurbished and now includes many of Instinct Furniture’s products. Paul and Stephen have always been helpful and efficient. Take a look, you won’t be disappointed.
